How to save money during a beach holiday in the Canary Islands

The cost of hiring sun beds can add up considerably by the end of a holiday. Bring a large beach towel to avoid that.

Bring a flask (or buy one there) for coffee so that you don't have to spend 3 Euros a time.

Make sure that you have a form E111 for medical emergencies and a credit card to pay for unexpected costs.

Try to keep your luggage weight low when flying in because the airports tend to be very strict in applying the rules and penalties for excess weight. This is especially important for groups who put 4 suitcases through the conveyer belt and the check in clerk stops them on the last case, the first three already having disappeared through the barrier). This leaves only the last case to take items out of and this may be the one with the lowest weight. It is advisable to weigh your suitcases before going to the airport and for friends to understand the implications of overweighing cases with souvenirs - one person's extragavagance may penalise the whole group.
